History has it that during the height of the Gold Rush in the early 1860s, there were over 21 hotels in the Main Street of Rutherglen. Currently, the townsfolk are served by three working hotels. This walking tour will take you on a tour of the colourful past of the some of the original watering holes of Rutherglen. Discover the story of how Rutherglen got its name and some of the colourful characters that were rumoured to have partaken in a “cold beverage” at some of the town’s hotels. The tour takes in buildings which are no longer operating as Hotels.
Once your walk has finished retire to Poachers Paradise Hotel for a drink and bar snacks. The bistro will be open after the tour has completed for anyone looking for dinner.
Tour length four kilometres.
